Coffee - Double Roast Profile Many of our gourmet coffee blends are crafted from a double roast profiles, so first lets try to give insite to
"What is a Double Roast Profile?"
First you might start with your base roast, lets say a medium roast profile, then within this profile you might blend 2 or 3 different types of green coffee beans comprising the make up i.e. some Sumatra, a little Ethiopian and perhaps a touch of Guatemalan. So we roast these beans to a medium roast.
Then we do another roast to perhaps a light French comprised of a little Sumatra and/or some Colombian.
Now we have two completed batches of roasted beans sitting in two different holders. At this point, let say we are blending to create a 5 pound batch, thus we might put 3 lbs of the blended beans from the medium roast, then 2 pounds from the light French, blending them together. This is a double roast profile.
Why do we do offer Double Roast Profiles?
First, they are more labor intensive, whereas one must get their measurements
exact each time, but the result, to IJS, are we bring you a true cup of gourmet coffee, as by adding anywhere from 25% to 40% of a light French Roast to the medium, you introduce just the right amount of cramelization which in turn adds more depth and/or character to your cup of coffee. Also, many of our customers light the slightly darker roast as it bring a full bodied cup, but again, if you are not exact, you will produce a cup with burnt undertones, which we do not.
